WHAT IS THE

RE SYMPOSIUM?

RE Symposium: Inspired by Faith

Melbourne 2026

What is the RE Symposium?

2026 is a pivotal year for building confidence and engagement with the new RE Curriculum. To reach excellence in Religious Education and the Catholic mission of our schools we need to invest in and empower our leaders and teachers in order to deliver excellence. We are committed to empowering great staff to lead great schools and work in solidarity with parish priests to achieve vibrant faith communities. The RE Symposium is one way to do that.

Findings from recent focus group interviews state that:

  • schools benefit from learning from one another
  • there is a need to create space for formation and learning, reflection, access to expert voices, shared learning and collaboration
  • there is a need to strengthen collaboration and visibility across the system, and there is a need to involve classroom teachers more fully.

The RE Symposium is being organised and held by Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) to support all Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne.

Who should attend?

The RE Symposium is initially targeted towards school leaders in Catholic Identity and Religious Education. There are four places available for each school in the Archdiocese to ensure there is an opportunity for representation of all Catholic schools at the Symposium.

In the first wave of registration, schools are invited to register up to four participants which may include:

  1. School Principal
  2. Religious Education Leader or Faith and Mission Leader
  3. Parish Priest, Clergy, Religious, or Pastoral Associate etc.
  4. One other school leader or emerging leader

The initial registration period is from April 17 to May 17 to ensure all schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne have had an opportunity to secure their attendance. After this time, the remaining tickets will be opened up to all schools who wish to attend with additional staff.

What will I do?

Each day of the RE Symposium will begin with keynote talks and animation to animate the main theme of Inspired By Faith. These keynote talks come from national and international presenters in Catholic Education, Identity, and Religious Education.
